Tomaz Kocjan is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana and head of the Endocrine Unit at the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia.
He received his medical degree from the University of Ljubljana. Initially training in Ljubljana as an internist and a thyroidologist, he soon developed an interest in general endocrinology with special focus on adrenal diseases and endocrine hypertension, but also in metabolic bone diseases, osteoporosis, bone densitometry and pituitary tumors. In 2003, he spent several months at Dept. of Endocrinology in Royal Free Hospital and Middlesex Hospital in London, UK. As part of his PhD, he worked on autoimmune thyroid disease, but afterwards he is mainly active in the field of adrenal diseases and bone diseases, especially osteoporosis. He published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals and served as a reviewer for EJE, Menopause, Maturitas and others. He authored chapters in Slovenian textbooks of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and edited chapters on Endocrine diseases.
He is board member of the Slovenian Society of Endocrinology, secretary of the Slovenian Bone Society and member of the IOF Committee of National Societies. He serves as a president of the organizing committee of national annual courses on endocrinology for MDs.
